Project introduction

This is a pattern overview rather than a full tutorial. It introduces Tad, a free crochet teddy bear design: the finished look, supplies, skills involved, and how the parts come together. The bear is presented as a cute and enjoyable project, ideal as a heartfelt gift or as a charming addition to a collection of crochet ZooVenture animals.
Tad The Crochet Teddy Bear

Meet Tad, a 12 inch tall crochet teddy bear with a timeless, classic look. His body is worked in a warm grey with contrasting white paws and nose, while the eyes, eyebrows and snout are embroidered for a soft, friendly face. Mending patches on the forehead and body give him the charm of a well loved toy, finished with a green bow.
Tad can be dressed up too: picture him in playful overalls for a picnic or cozy pajamas for a bedtime story, with free crochet patterns for those outfits shared later in the designer’s post.
What Are The Crochet Supplies Needed To Crochet Teddy Bear?

Before you pick up your hook, gather everything in one place and read through the designer’s pattern once from start to finish. Knowing how the pieces fit together makes crocheting smoother, especially around the face and assembly. The finished bear’s size changes with the yarn weight you choose, so pick a yarn and hook you enjoy working with.
How To Crochet Teddy Bear?
The free pattern is written for intermediate crocheters, although confident beginners are encouraged to give it a try. You will use familiar basics throughout: the slip knot, chain stitches and magic ring for starting rounds, plus single crochet worked with simple increases and decreases to shape each piece. If those stitches feel comfortable, you already have the foundation for this project.
Crochet The Parts
First, make every part of the bear; the complete written pattern sits at the end of the designer’s post. The body is stuffed firmly with polyester fiberfill. The safety eyes go in at Round 16, spaced 12 stitches apart, before stuffing. For the snout, a long strand of black yarn and the safety nose are worked into the small hole created at round 6.
Each ear is flattened with its last round sewn shut, the bottom two thirds of the arms and legs are filled firmly, and the feet get simple stitching in black yarn. The tail takes only a small amount of stuffing, and the patch pieces decorate the forehead and tummy.
Assembling The Crochet Teddy Bear

Assembly brings Tad to life, starting with the face. White yarn is embroidered around the outside of the safety eyes, then the snout is placed between the eyes, stuffed and sewn to the head. The ears are positioned symmetrically between rounds 6 and 20 and sewn in place.
Mark the head and body alignment approximately two to three rows from the center, then join the head to the body. The arms are sewn on between the head and body, the legs attach at round 16 measured from the bottom, and the tail is sewn to the rear of the body 18 rounds up from the base.
Dress Up Tad With These Crochet Outfits

Tad looks delightful dressed in crocheted outfits made for the designer’s amigurumi animals. The gallery includes suspender pants and a crochet cap made for Danz the Crochet Dog, overalls for Ron the Crochet Rhino, and bloomers shorts for Mindy the Crochet Mouse. Tad himself models a toddler sized beanie, a style offered in 9 sizes from newborn to adult.
You will also spot diaper pants, a red and white striped top, a four piece sailor costume, and a pajamas onesie with a sleeping hat. The Crochet Amigurumi Animal and Wildlife collection holds more outfits and accessories, including a Halloween costume, a dress and a bikini. Extra clothes made just for Tad are still being developed, and the designer’s newsletter announces each new free pattern as it is released.

Crochet Teddy Bear Pattern Overview

Construction is worked piece by piece. The body begins in Khaki yarn with a slip knot and a chain-5 foundation. The head, ears, arms, snout and tail each start with a magic ring, all in Khaki except for the Cream snout. The two legs begin in cream with a slip knot and a chain-5 foundation worked in the round, then change to khaki partway through, each with a long tail left for sewing.
The forehead patch is a small flat cream piece: a chain-5 foundation with two rows of five single crochets. Finish by following the assembly notes above.
