This page is a pattern overview, not a full stitch tutorial. It introduces the Manta Ray C2C Block by Alisha Ober, a graceful ocean-inspired square that captures the sweep of a manta ray using corner-to-corner colorwork. Below you will find a clear look at what the design includes, how the finished block is worked up, and where to get the actual row-by-row instructions from the designer.

Alisha Ober created this afghan block as part of a ray-themed series of C2C squares, and the Ravelry listing tags it with chart, written-pattern, square, other-colorwork and color-blind-accessible attributes. That combination makes it a welcoming project whether you follow written directions, read a chart, or like to switch between both while you work.

The manta ray is not a standalone idea. It belongs to a larger collection of ray blocks that join together into blankets of any size, from a cozy throw all the way up to a king-size cover. The designer also points stitchers toward her full collection of 8 ray blocks and more, so one square can easily grow into a complete ocean-themed afghan.

Prefer a smaller make? This single block adapts beautifully to individual projects. It can become a pillow, a tote bag, a coaster, a hot pad, a placemat or a table runner, or it can be worked into a sweater, cardigan or scarf. The motif format means you can slot the finished square into almost any item that takes a flat panel.

The included chart adds even more creative mileage. According to the designer, it transfers easily to mosaic crochet, tapestry crochet, cross stitch, or any other craft that uses a grid chart. If you love chart-based colorwork, this one design can fuel several different projects across techniques.

The sample on the pattern page was worked in mini C2C and measures approximately 14″ x 14″. The designer’s gauge note says four squares equal 2″ in the pattern. For the complete chart, written directions and construction details, see the Original designer’s pattern and instructions.
