This is a pattern overview, not a full tutorial. Kitty’s Kreations Boutique published a free crochet pattern for a small mason jar cover, and this guide explains what the project involves, which supplies it calls for, and how the construction is organized so you can decide whether to make it. The designer’s own page holds the complete round-by-round instructions, so follow the Original designer’s pattern and instructions for the working details.
Crochet Small Mason Jar Cover

The cover is worked in the round from a magic circle, beginning with 8 sc. The early rounds build outward with single crochet increases, moving through 16, 24, and 32 stitches. Round 5 continues the increase pattern until 12 stitches remain, which are worked as plain single crochets, bringing the round to 37 stitches. Rounds 6 through 8 hold that count with straight single crochet.
The textured middle of the cover runs from rounds 9 through 17, where bobble stitches alternate with skipped stitches to create a raised, nubby surface. Rounds 18 through 20 return to plain single crochet for a flat band at the top. After the final round, the designer instructs you to weave in ends and suggests cutting a length of yarn to thread through the top so the cover can be cinched snug against the jar.
Finishing is open to choice. You can attach a gnome to the front, leave the cover plain, or add a different embellishment entirely. The gnome shown in the sample is a separate free pattern by another designer, and Kitty’s Kreations Boutique notes that the link would be posted alongside the cover pattern.
Pattern format and preparation
Before starting, gather the supplies the designer lists. The pattern is written in US terms and uses a small set of standard abbreviations, so a quick read through the notes will keep the bobble rounds clear.
- Size G hook
- Tapestry needle
- Weight 3 yarn
- Embellishments (optional)
The abbreviations used are MC for magic circle, ST for stitch, Sk for skip stitch, Sl St for slip stitch, Ch for chain, and Sc for single crochet. The designer also describes the bobble stitch: insert the hook, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, insert the hook, yarn over, pull up a loop (4 loops), yarn over, pull up a loop (6 loops), then yarn over and pull through all 6 loops, chain 1.
The pattern is available free on the designer’s website, and the round-by-round instructions live there rather than here. If any step reads unclearly, the original page is the place to check, and the designer invites questions directly.
