Ghost Gift Buddy
Free Amigurumi Crochet Pattern Overview
This charming little ghost is perfect for starting a “You’ve Been Boo’d” tradition or surprising a friend. It combines spooky and sweet elements, making it an ideal vessel for candy, gift cards, or other treats.
Designed for beginners, this no-sew pattern uses U.S. crochet terms. The project is worked in continuous spirals without joining rounds, so using a stitch marker helps track progress. Made with super bulky chenille yarn, the finished ghost stands approximately 2.5 inches tall, though size may vary based on your tension and hook choice.

Supplies
To create this ghost, you will need Super Bulky (6) weight yarn, such as Premier Parfait Chunky (about 38 yards or 29 grams). You also require an H (5.00mm) crochet hook, two 14mm plastic safety eyes (not recommended for children under 3), black thread or yarn, a yarn needle, scissors, and optional locking stitch markers.
If you choose to add the bow, gather an E/4 (3.50mm) crochet hook and a small amount of worsted weight yarn.
Techniques
The project utilizes several fundamental amigurumi techniques. Key methods include working a Magic Circle, performing Single Crochet, and executing a Single Crochet Increase. For shaping, you will use decreases, with the designer preferring an invisible decrease.
Other essential skills include Slip Stitch and Fastening Off. If you opt for the bow accessory, you will need to know how to do a Slipknot and Chain and perform Double Crochet.
Abbreviations
Familiarize yourself with these standard US crochet abbreviations:
- sc: single crochet
- sl st: slip stitch
- st/sts: stitch(es)
- inc: increase
- dec: decrease
- ch: chain
- R1: round 1
- flo: front loop only
- blo: back loop only
Parentheses indicate a group of stitches to repeat. For example, if a line reads “(inc, sc) 6 times {18 sts},” you work one increase and one single crochet into consecutive stitches, repeating this sequence six times. Similarly, “(dec, sc in next 2 sts) 6 times {18 sts}” means you join two single crochets into one, then work two single crochets, repeating that entire sequence six times.

Head/body

The head and body are worked together in Color A, starting from a magic circle. The initial rounds involve increasing stitches to shape the top of the head, followed by decreasing to form the neck area. Even rounds create the main body height before further increases expand the lower section.
Safety eyes are placed between specific rounds, leaving four stitches open between them. A smile is embroidered below the eyes, and optional pink cheeks can be added. After closing the bottom of the body, a frilly border is created by working into the front loops of a previous round. This border adds a whimsical touch to the ghost’s base.
Once the border is complete, the body is rolled and tucked inward to form a cup-like shape. This hollow interior allows the ghost to hold small gifts like candy or notes. An optional bow can be attached to the back or side for extra decoration. The finished piece serves as a delightful surprise container for seasonal traditions.
