Project introduction

A ghost-shaped soap cover is a small, seasonal way to dress up a bathroom sink. The Ghost Soap Cover crochet pattern from ChristaCoDesign is written for crafters at any experience level, and it works up quickly enough to finish before Halloween arrives. Use it as part of spooky season decor, or simply as a cute ghost sitting over the soap pump.
The design is worked from the top down in the round. The listing includes written instructions, a video tutorial, and a photo tutorial for extra guidance, and the fit can be customized to suit a hand soap bottle.
You can find the Original designer’s pattern and instructions at ChristaCoDesign.
Pattern Snapshot
The stated level is Easy. The recommended yarn is a #4 medium weight cotton, and the hook is a 4 mm US Size G-4. A video tutorial is available for anyone who prefers to follow along on screen.
It is a quick and enjoyable Halloween crochet project that lifts bathroom decor and brings a smile each time the soap is used.
An ad-free, well formatted printable PDF is sold through the designer’s shop. The free pattern sits further down the original page.
Materials
The project calls for 55 yds of Dishie, a #4 medium worsted weight 100% cotton yarn sold in 190 yd (174 m) per 100 g skeins. Split that total between two shades: white (53 yds) and black (2 yds).
You will also need a 4 mm US size G-4 crochet hook, or whatever hook size is needed to meet gauge. Gather a yarn needle, measuring tape, scissors, and stitch marker or markers as well.
Notes

Read through all the notes and the pattern before starting. This free crochet ghost pattern is worked in the round from the top down.
A different yarn can be substituted, although the designer chose cotton for absorbency. Always check gauge, or the finished piece may vary in size.
Gauge
Gauge is 7 sts x 6 rnds after blocking, measured over 2 inches (5 cm) in esc.
Sizing
The finished ghost measures 6.5 inches tall by 4.5 inches at its widest point (16.5 cm x 11.5 cm). It is sized to fit a 9.375 FL OZ (277 mL) hand soap bottle.
Skill Level
The pattern is labeled Easy, which places it within reach of a newer crocheter who is already comfortable with basic stitches and working in the round. No advanced techniques are called for, and the stitches used are single crochet and extended single crochet. Anyone who can form those stitches and join a small ring should be able to work the cover.
Stitches

The pattern uses US terms. The abbreviations are:
- ch(s) - chain(s)
- esc - extended single crochet
- fsc - foundation single crochet
- mc - magic circle (magic ring)
- sc - single crochet
- sk - skip the indicated stitch
- sl st - slip stitch
- st(s) - stitch(es)
- rep - repeat
Construction
Work happens in continuous rounds, which forms a spiral. Because the piece goes around and around in a circle, mark the first stitch of each round with a stitch marker so the start of the round stays clear.
Adjustments
For a taller cover, add or remove repeats of round 3. For a wider cover, add or remove increases in the same way as round 8.

Construction Overview

The cover is worked in white yarn from the top down, beginning with a ring of foundation single crochet that is sized to slip over the soap dispenser pump. That starting ring is adjustable: the pattern notes you can add or remove stitches to match your own dispenser. The ends are brought together into a circle, and the first stitch of the next round closes the join.
Shaping follows a simple sequence. The second round doubles the stitch count, then several rounds are worked even to build the body. A single increase round widens the piece again, more even rounds follow, and a final round of single crochet increases flares the bottom edge before the yarn is fastened off and the ends are woven in. A stitch marker is moved up at the start of each round to track the work.
The eyes are optional safety eyes, or two small black circles worked from a magic ring, then sewn in place. The mouth is embroidered one round below the eyes, with three stitches between them.
