Boho Fringe Cardigan: Pattern Overview

Woman standing with arms outstretched, wearing a cream crochet cardigan with long fringe along the sleeves, neckline and hem, over light trousers, against a plain beige wall.

Project introduction

Torso of a person wearing a cream crochet cardigan with an openwork stitch pattern and long fringe along the front opening, sleeve cuffs and lower edge, photographed indoors in soft daylight.

This is a pattern overview, not a full tutorial. The Boho Fringe Cardigan comes from Círculo Yarns, designed by Angélica Schmitt with technical editing by Tamy Antunes. It is a fringed, open-front cardigan worked in a lacy stitch pattern, and the complete row-by-row directions, chart and assembly diagram live at the source. Use this page to judge whether the project suits your skills, yarn and schedule before you commit, then open the Original designer’s pattern and instructions and work from the chart directly.

The pattern is written in six sizes: S, (M, L, XL), 2L and 3L, based on bust sizes of 32-34, (36-38, 40-42, 44-46), 48-50 and 52-54 in., or 81-86, (91-96, 101-106, 111-117), 122-127 and 132-137 cm. The source notes that measurements are approximate because centimeters and inches, hook sizes and tension all vary, so treat the size chart as a guide and check your own gauge.

The fabric uses chain, single crochet, slip stitch, double crochet, front post double crochet and back post double crochet. Source abbreviations include r. for row, st(s). for stitch(es), RS for right side, WS for wrong side, […] for repetition and FO. for fasten off. If post stitches are new to you, practice a small swatch first, because the pattern relies on a chart rather than written-out rows.

Pattern format and preparation

Before you begin, gather the full supply list the source specifies. The suggested hook is a Círculo 1.75 mm crochet hook, or the size needed to achieve gauge. Gauge is 21 sts x 12 rows = 4″ x 4″ / 10×10 cm in the stitch pattern, so swatching is the first real step. Notions are a measuring tape, a tapestry needle and scissors; add a few removable stitch markers of your own for tracking armhole and neckline decreases.

Yarn is listed in two options with identical ball counts. Option one is 4, (5, 5, 6), 6 and 7 Círculo Anne balls (273 yds / 250 m, 2.57 oz / 73 g), with the sample in color 7684 Porcelain. Option two is 4, (5, 5, 6), 6 and 7 Círculo Encanto Slim balls (139 yds / 128 m, 3.52 oz / 73 g), with the sample in color 7650 Almond. Encanto Slim is also the fringe yarn, so plan your quantities around both uses.

Construction is chart-led. The front and back are made as a single panel without side seams. Armhole decreases begin in the 52nd (52nd, 54th, 56th), 58th, 60th row, and neckline decreases follow after 14 (14, 14, 14), 14, 14 more rows. Sleeves are worked separately from a starting chain and then follow the chart. Assembly means sewing shoulders, attaching sleeves to armholes and sewing underarms, then working finishing rows on the front and around the neckline, where the second row decreases 1 ch between the repetitions.

  • Hook: Círculo 1.75 mm, or the size needed to achieve gauge
  • Gauge: 21 sts x 12 rows = 4″ x 4″ / 10×10 cm in the stitch pattern
  • Yarn option A: Círculo Anne, 4, (5, 5, 6), 6 and 7 balls, sample color 7684 Porcelain
  • Yarn option B: Círculo Encanto Slim, 4, (5, 5, 6), 6 and 7 balls, sample color 7650 Almond
  • Notions: measuring tape, tapestry needle, scissors
  • Fringe: Encanto Slim cut into 28.3 in / 72 cm pieces, grouped in sets of 8, hung on the neckline, hem and underarm
  • Finishing: weave in all ends, wet block and lay flat to dry

The fringe is the signature detail and also the last step, so leave yourself enough Encanto Slim after the body and sleeves are complete. Follow the assembly diagram for placement rather than guessing at spacing, and read the chart fully before starting so the decrease rows do not surprise you mid-panel.
